This is the debut album of Ana Sofia. The album’s name literally comes from a song she wrote when she was sixteen. However, the name also symbolically reflects the “opening” of these songs that were privately written about experiences, emotions, and thoughts she had or was exposed to starting at age 10 until she was seventeen. While Ana Sofia has been singing, performing, and songwriting since she was a young child, most of these songs had not been played publicly before being released.
Each song reflects a different experience or emotion she had or was exposed to at certain times in her life. Her songs usually came to her fairly complete, with music and lyrics. It is because of this that they capture complete thoughts, a “picture,” of what she was feeling or a thought at a moment in time. They could be interpreted as a series of letters written not necessarily to be shared. Most are conversations with herself rather than another person.
These particular fourteen songs were chosen because they reflect a period of time when these themes were most relevant to Ana Sofia. At the same time, her artistic and personal growth can be observed through the subject matter, the music itself, and her performance. The final song, “Si tú no estas aqui” written by Rosana was added as a homage to Ana Sofia’s Latin family and heritage.
Ana Sofia chose these songs hoping that people of all ages would appreciate the music and messages and also possibly find that some elements of these songs touch on the listener’s own life experiences and provide an opportunity for reflection, nostalgia, hope, and love.
